Collection Agency Fees and Net Recovery

A contingency percentage describes the agency’s share of recovered money, not the amount it will recover. Ask how the fee changes with account age, balance, prior collection efforts or legal referral. Compare the expected deductions from a payment before choosing a collection service.

As a calculation example, collecting $5,000 at a 25% fee leaves $3,750 before any other agreed charges. At 35%, it leaves $3,250. These are illustrations, not advertised agency rates or recovery forecasts. Your contract determines the actual fee and permitted expenses.

Commercial Debt Recovery for Unpaid Invoices

Prepare the invoice, agreement, delivery or service evidence and a clear account history. Identify genuine disputes instead of presenting every unpaid invoice as uncontested. Better records help a collection company assess what it can reasonably pursue and what may need another approach.

Some agencies set minimum balances or require several accounts. Our collection minimums article explains why a small invoice may fit a different service from a large commercial balance.

Collection Agencies, Reminders and Receivables Software

Use reminders when a customer needs a nudge and agency collection when you need outside recovery work. Receivables software organizes your team’s reminders and records; it does not necessarily supply a collector. Products such as Chaser or an accounting platform’s reminder tools belong in the software comparison, not automatically in the agency shortlist.

Consumer and commercial accounts also require different expertise. The federal FDCPA does not cover business debts, but other applicable requirements still matter. Ask the agency about the account type and jurisdictions involved.
