Solar Installation Cost per Watt
Divide the installed cash price by the system's DC wattage to calculate cost per watt. For a purely illustrative example, a $24,000 installation rated at 8,000 watts works out at $3 per watt. This arithmetic example is not a supplier price or an expected market rate.
Compare like with like: one figure including battery storage and another excluding it will mislead. Confirm the same tax and fee basis, and compare annual production alongside the unit price.
| Illustrative calculation | Result |
|---|---|
| $24,000 divided by 8,000 watts | $3.00 per watt |
| $24,000 plus a separately priced battery | Keep storage outside the panel-only comparison |
| Cash total versus loan payments | Compare borrowing cost for identical equipment |
Solar Battery and Installation Extras
Price battery storage separately with its usable capacity, output and backup equipment identified. Ask which circuits it supports and what installation changes are included. Whole-home backup and a limited essential-load arrangement are different purchases.
Roof work, electrical upgrades and specialist access can also affect the total. Our solar buying guide helps you check equipment and installation scope before comparing companies.
Solar Finance Prices and Total Payments
A monthly payment spreads cost; it does not establish whether the system is competitively priced. Request the cash total and financed total for identical panels and inverters. Compare any fees and early repayment conditions.
