Medical Billing Contracts: Revenue Included in Your Fee

Give every bidder the same anonymized monthly collection figures and ask for a worked fee example. Check whether patient receipts, old receivables and payments processed by another service are included. Then compare minimums, setup and optional services as separate lines.

For illustration, a 5% fee on $80,000 is $4,000; 6% is $4,800. These are calculation examples, not provider rates. A difference in included work can easily outweigh that $800 difference, so price the complete service you intend to buy.

Medical Billing Staff and Daily Claim Follow-Up

Find out who owns the practice’s daily queue and who covers absence or turnover. Ask how unresolved items are escalated, whether your staff can see progress, and how quickly a billing question is acknowledged. A named contact is useful only if the team behind that contact can keep work moving.

Request a demonstration using fictional claim scenarios. Include a corrected claim, a secondary payer and a patient overpayment. You are assessing the provider’s working process, not giving it real patient records during an initial sales call.

Medical Billing Security and Practice Access

A medical billing company handling protected health information for a covered practice will generally need a business associate agreement. Review permitted access, subcontractors and incident handling with the appropriate practice advisers. Keep access individual and accountable rather than sharing a single staff login.

Make continuing access to your practice data part of the buying decision. Ask who controls the software account, what reports you can export, and how records and unfinished claims are returned if you change providers.

Medical Billing Prices for Credentialing and Denials

Credentialing, old receivables and specialized denial work can be separate projects. Compare each by the output you need and the period covered. A recurring billing fee should not be confused with a one-time cleanup proposal.

Our denial management fee and credentialing cost articles cover these two common additions. Once the responsibilities are clear, get medical billing prices that include both the ongoing service and the extra work you expect.
